History
In 1991, Tuggeranong Valley Band Inc. formed a junior division of its band program. This band, originally known as the Junior band was formed under the leadership of Catherine Cool. It later became known as the Youth Band and in 2004 was renamed the Intermediate Band following an expansion of the band to cater for people of all ages.
Musical director
Shilong Ye is musical director of the Intermediate Band.
Previous directors include Sarah Nielsen, Cameron Smith, Ruth Williams, Catherine Cool, Paul Davies, Matthew Radisich, Wally Pope, Jo Williams, Ben Fixter and Kirsty Biggs.
Instruments and music
The Intermediate Band comprises brass, woodwind and percussion instruments. Players generally are beginners who are learning their instruments elsewhere or are able to play at an early intermediate level. They need to bring their own instruments to band. Auditions are not a requirement for entry. The musical director is keen to ensure that the band has a wide repertoire of music to suit the varied levels and interests of the players. Music includes popular movie themes, jazz and some big band pieces.
