
History
The Tuggeranong Valley Band was formed in 1980 under the baton of Burt Ansell. Based at the Erindale College, the band was originally known as the Erindale Band. The band changed its name to the Tuggeranong Valley Band in 1987, and in 1989 moved to the Lake Tuggeranong College. In 2005, the band relocated to Village Creek Primary School, and in December 2007 the band moved to it's current home, the Tuggeranong Uniting Church.
Musical director
Dave Hatch is musical director of the concert band.
Previous musical directors include: Cameron Smith, Michael Faragher, Bert Ansell, Helen Robinson, Ann Sutton, Kevin Grifferty, Ben Newbold, Peter Smith, Kirsty Biggs, Mark Biggs, Ben Fixter and Gerry Foster.
Instruments and music
The Concert Band comprises brass, woodwind and percussion instruments. Players generally are able to play at an intermediate level or above and auditions are not a requirement for entry. Our Musical Director is keen to ensure that our band has a wide repertoire of music to suit the many varied occasions at which the band is asked to play. Music covers all styles including classical, jazz, popular, film and show music.
Public performances
The Concert Band regularly performs at community events in and around the Canberra region. Such events include Floriade, The Botanic Gardens Summer Serenade Evenings and Carols By Candlelight at Lanyon Homestead. If you are interested in booking the band please contact us at info@tvband.org.au.
Rehearsal times
The Concert Band rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7.30 to 9.30 p.m. at the Tuggeranong Uniting Church, near the Erindale Centre in Wanniassa. If you are interested in joining the band and would like further information then please send an email to info@tvband.org.au.
